WWDC
Despite all the other ridiculously cool announcements today, what I’m excited most about is Safari’s implementation of the legend tag. Tabs are still unreachable by (my) AppleScript, but hey.
Oh, and I guess maybe the Power Mac G5 is pretty cool, too. If you’re into that sort of thing.

not to inflame anyone, but http://www.haxial.com/spls-soapbox/apple-powermac-G5/
i dont care how fast it is in comparison with a dell. i care about how fast it is in comparison with my aging G4.
Your “aging G4?” I remember when you got your G4 cause it was about a year after I got mine…..
geez, i’m still hacking away on my Rev A G3 350. i’d kill for a G4.
and actually… in a phone interview with Slashdot, Apple defends the benchmark tests
anyone wanna buy my g4? Dual 533…
Kev and trk, I was wondering what you guys actually do for a living. Because I find it rather asinine that you’d voluntarily use a mac when, for less than half the price, you can get a better-performing PC (assuming your career choice doesn’t require a MAC)
i find it rather asinine that you think we’ll voluntarily answer you when you come to our site and ridicule us.
hey kyle.. i thought of some different ways for you to phrase your question about macs and performance:
Why drive a Mercedes when a Kia will get you there all the same?
Why fly first-class when there’s plenty of room in coach?
Why use a Hasselblad when a Kodak Disposable Camera takes pictures too?
Why have sex with another person when you can just jerk off?
If you still don’t get it, you never will.
So, you’re saying that Macintosh computers are inherently better than Windows-based PC’s, even considering the greater variety in software, and more hardware power that a PC provides?
kyle: bu-bye. go elsewhere to see where your flame-baiting gets you.
faster? hmmm….
By the way dipshit, I fix Macintosh for a living. Software and hardware. I also helped develop Apple’s .mac website, iDVD, etc…. by your asinine reasoning I should just use a PC… and not question it? I use a PC, a personal computer, mine happens to run an operating system that redmond can only dream about and copy.
(By PC, I mean Window’s/Linux OS PC with x86 architecture, built by an OEM or DIY)
I don’t question the quality of OSX, and I think it’s great that you fix Mac’s for a living. But this doesn’t mean that Mac’s are better than PC’s. I, also, would probably use a Mac in my daily browsing activities if I worked for the company, or got huge discounts on buying a Mac. The first computer I ever used was a Mac. This doesn’t mean that I would rather use a Mac than a PC, though. Of course, if I had a good use for a Mac, I’d buy one myself. But for my purposes (imaging, gaming, internet, multimedia), a PC perfoms much better.
I see your side of the story, as well as mine. To me, at the moment, I’d rather use a PC than a Mac. So what if we disagree? I’m not flaming you just because I think PC’s are better.
um… you called us asinine… you started this…. and i’m obviously not the same type of user as your parents.
Also, a g4 emac w/ 17″ display is $799. And a professional G4 tower starts at $1299. Your just a plain jane wintel cheap skate fuck.
trk, I am indeed a cheap skate 🙂
Doesn’t mean I should have to take a hit in performance, though. The g4 emac does not have top-of-the-line video and sound cards in it, and I’m sure the HDD included is less than par when compared to the standard 80+ gigs that come in today’s PC’s.
actually — unlike in the pathetic wintel world the eMac does in fact have excellent audio… digital audio via usb — and minijacks…. you buy breakout boxes if you need rca, composite, coaxial, spidf, etc… so you are wrong about that. And the video card is an extremely capable ATI Radeon 7500 card (not built in shared SDRAM/VRAM horseshit like cheap PCs nowadays)…. also, the monitor is a fixed resolution so the card is overkill as it is. Wrong again. And the HD is a 40 gig. Go buy a 80$ 80 gig and put in… dont be a wuss. Or buy an external 200+ gig firewire drive and you have backup + storage space for years. Again, you are a pathetic cheap skate who will not see the truth. Will not even open his eyes and ears, in fact you are so obsessed with not listening you keep returning here (where we hate you) to engage in anti-mac fodder. LOSER.
you said “fodder”
I know the MAC is capable of being a kick-ass PC. Nonetheless, a “Wintel” is much more powerful for the cash. Apple is taking a step in the right direction by attempting to use the same hardware as a Wintel PC uses, but anything that is designed specifically for an Apple is going to be much more expensive, given the smaller demand for the product and the dominance the Windows PC has over hardware production.
Take, for example, the Radeon 7500. It’s a fairly descent card, but for PC’s (and the new $3000 g5), there are much, much more powerful cards out there. If Apple wants to make their PC’s mass-market, they can’t stay in their niche market of professional graphics artists and media people. They are going to have to put out a killer PC with hardware just as good as a Windows PC, for the same price, with much better software compatibility.
WINDOWS > MAC hands down
ok. until you can realize that a. Mac is not ALL CAPS and b. your arguments are at the same time antiquated and annoying, i’d like you to stop making comments. thanks.
software compatibility.
Lets see: Windows can run windows apps.
Mac’s can run liinux, posix, bsd, unix, java, classic, carbon, cocoa, hmmm….
But the number of Windows apps is FAR, FAR greater than those made for Apple and Linux combined.
sigh… you’re really not getting it. what does it matter if there are 900 ways to download porn on windows? at last count the number of standards-compliant web browsers is on MacOS X outweights windows pretty heavily.
I use both plattforms on a regular basis. My PC works good, but I love my Mac. Personally I find that the PC is good for word processing and internet, some imaging. But the video rendering software like Logic is to dramatically awesome to consider using a like Windows product. Price? After building my PC to my specs it was $100 less than buying my G4. Plus I built the PC myself, so the $100 dollars for a built system that came in a thermally superior casing made up for the diffrence. Windows for everyone! MacOS for the artists, and thinkers.
Oh, the last piece. I agree with kev. Who needs so many ways to download inferior programs. Programs that rarely have all the functions work properly. I was sick of the bluescreen of death when working with new devolping technologies. Windows 2000 no more. Now I am sick of the End Program dialogs that act in the same manner. As far as Mac bombs, mabye I was lucky with system 7.0.1 to 9 but there have been very few. Most back with system 7.5.3 (ewwwwww) but atleast for me they were consistent problems so that they could eventually be debugged. (even if I don’t debug myself, atleast I can call my programming friend). Debugging in windows always feels like “as soon as we fix this we get to see the next conflict 🙁 “
