Kerouac's insight as to what 'IT' is..

Now, we all remember that whole ‘Ginger/IT’ thing a while back. I came across this passage in On The Road today, which I felt was.. er.. kind of fitting. I guess. Maybe I just wanted to share it, I dunno. Check it:

“Now, man, that alto man last night hat IT – he held it once he found it; I’ve never seen a guy who could hold so long.” I wanted to know what “IT” meant. “Ah, well” – Dean laughed – “now you’re talking about impon-de-rables – ahem! Here’s a guy and everybody’s there, right? Up to him to put down what’s on everybody’s mind. He starts the first chorus, then lines up his ideas, people, people, yeah, yeah, but get it, and then he rises to his fate and has to blow equal to it. All of a sudden, somewhere in the middle of the chorus he gets it – everybody looks up and knows; they listen; he picks it up and carries. Time stops. He’s filling empty space with the substance of our lives, confesions of his bellybottom strain, remembrance of ideas, rehashes of old blowing. He has to blow across bridges and come back and do it with such infinite feeling soul-exploratory for the tune of the moment that everybody knows it’s not the tune that counts, but IT

A little more inspiring than a scooter. 🙂 Maybe that’s why I love jazz so much…

Yawn

Yawn. What a strange day. In fact, I’ve had a strange 2 months. Like, even when I was working at home for a company, it wasn’t this strange. Now, I work for myself, and I’m at home all the time. It’s getting a little wierd and I don’t think I’ll be able to go back to working in a regular office. Not that I plan on it.

Score 1 for kev

I swear, if this whole ‘graphic design’ thing doesn’t work out for me, the least I can do is sell Apple products. Many has been the time, at many a store, that I have simply dismissed the salesperson, and have proceeded to fucking sell the shit out of the Apple product in question to the prospective buyer. And why do I bring this up? Today, at MicroCenter, I came across a semi-competent sales-lady trying to explain MacOS X to a Sun guy. She was showing him all the bells and whistles: the Dock, the genie effect, etc. But it was I who explained to him the 3 programming environments, and that Cocoa apps can be totally customized by the user. It was I who showed him how OS 9 can be run as a seperate thread in X, and that UNIX is right there when you need it. It’s amazing to see people’s reactions when you explain all that to them, especially Sun people (as this guy was) and Windows people. Their eyes just widen like they can’t believe what they’re hearing.

So, 808, what ever happened to that Mac store we were going to open? 😉 I guess I could wait until Apple opens their proposed Littleteon store and work weekends if I need to. Which, believe it or not, is something I’ve acutally considered doing when it happens. Maybe as the Genius Bar guy?

WTF

What the fuck?

Sometimes things like this just have to remind you of how fucking weird the internet really is.

*Update: Oh my god, even stranger, I just noticed that the design/html is a direct rip off of the sub category pages at the Apple Support website. ( I cant seem to find the direct link because my cookies send me to the apple care support pages… I cant seem to see the “consumer” support pages)

Hunk 'a burnin' love

Are you interested in a PowerBook G4 Titanium? Would you like to burn CDs with that? In a move that insinuates that Apple is NOT looking into including a built-in slot-loading CDR, they’re now offering a FREE VST Firewire CDRW with purchase of said Powerbook.

Whaddayaknow…

A review of an Apple store, via SVN:

The myth that a Mac can’t do what a PC can do is dashed to pieces and you start to realize that quite possibly, it is the other way around. I think destroying the PC/Mac myth is the most important factor in the success of the Apple Store. Profitable or not, setting the record straight is what will win new users. Analysts shouldn’t view the stores solely as a profit/loss balance sheet, but instead see it as a marketing program to change public perception.

Homer Simpson English

This is a list of the words added to the Oxford English Dictionary in the Month of June 2001… notice at the bottom left the word ‘doh’… apparently Homer has some influence in this country.

Ay (it's about fucking time) Carumba!

The Simpsons are finally coming to DVD. I have been waiting for this for a looong time. As much as I love the first couple of years, I can’t wait for seasons 3-9, but I’m happy with what I can get. Plus, it gives us all a chance to reflect on how much this damn show has permeated our lives. For most people I know, Sunday night is a decade old ritual. And it reminds you how hard it is to deal with people who don’t enjoy the Simpsons. They are seriously different people. Also, rumor has it that Futurama is coming to DVD in November.

Supoib.
