Mexico can SUCK IT

I watched my first ever full game of Soccer tonight. Sure, I’ve been getting excited and keeping up and everything, but this USA vs. Mexico game I just had to watch all the way through. It was brilliant. Bloody historical. First World Cup shutout since 1950. And the last time we made it to the Final Eight? 1930. Exciting stuff. Despite Kev’s astute post, have more Americans been swayed by this World Cup? Will this victory affect NAFTA? Does the World Cup justify rampant vicious nationalism? Questions abound. Of course, the only one question remains: How do those Nazi bastards think that they can step to us? Bring it on, Adolf.

Sincerely,

A very sick man.

  1. i know what you mean.. i watched the ireland v spain game yesterday and it didn’t just go into 2 overtimes, it went all the way to 5 penalty kicks each, with Spain winning by one. I was rooting for my semi-kinsman the whole time and was very upset by the loss in what seemed to be an arbitrary way to end a very heated match. One thing that differs about soccer is that the announcer said ‘if this is what it takes to beat ireland, they can go home with their heads held high’ which is a concept any american sport can only hope to attain.

  2. The real question is after staying up from 2:20 to 4:30am to support my US team (and disturb my girlfriend’s attempts to sleep), will I ever be able to return to normal sleping habits after weeks of waking up in the middle of the night!? Success in the World Cup in the US could lead to a serious need for sleeping pills. I’m sure the pharma lobby is behind all this live coverage…

  3. yeah, the IRL:SPN game was a real nail biter, but i loved every minute of it. so far, it’s the most exciting WorldCup game i’ve watched.

  4. Well done U.S. i really am impressed with how far the teams got this year. The thing is, no one in america seems to give a fuck. In England all you hear is about how ‘we can beat Brazil’. Right. Like thats going to happen. My point is that if most of these countries win the world cup there would be aa week of partying. If the U.S win it (apart from good folks like you) everyone would be trying to figure out if they actually have a soccer team.

  5. timmy, i comletely agree. for that reason alone, we dont *deserve* to win it. that said, i think it would be fantastic to beat germany. if we lose, so what, we did great. if germany loses…hehe, oh man i’d feel bad for them. all the pressure is on them.bruce arena was asked who he’d rather play in the semi finals, korea or spain. he replied, “you’re asking me? the us coach, who we’d rather play in the semis? we’ll play *anyone*.”im looking forward to england and brazil tonight, and then i have to set my alarm for 4:30am. harumpf.

  6. what channel (in Denver) are the games on? Where can I find a web based schedule? anyone…

  7. the US team lost to germany this morning. ESPN shows them and i think abc too.
