Macinstore
Apple currently has around 5% market share in personal computers. This means that out of one hundred computer users, five of them use Macs. While that may not sound like a lot, it is actually higher than both BMWs and Mercedes-Benzs share of the automotive market. And it equals 25 million customers around the world using Macs.
A pretty frank statement about the opening of two Apple stores this weekend, with a virtual tour of it. Nice. I can’t wait for the CO one to open.

MacCentral says Apple will be running ads with this “manifesto.”
The problem with Apple’s analogy is that BMWs and M-Bs don’t run on different fuel than Fords, Chevys, Hondas, etc. and they drive on the same roads. With Apple, it’s a little different.
That said, I think the store strategy is a gamble, but it might just pay off. Good thing they’re starting conservatively, with only 2 stores.
The analogy is also bad because there are not *3* types of car manufacturers… ala the 3 types of computer manufacturers; Apple, Wintel, *NIX.
Well, there really aren’t all that many… Think about it.. Toyota makes just about all the cars that Chevy sells… Like how Dell and Compaq work.. Let me see if I can break this down..
Toyota = Microsoft
Subaru = Red Hat
Ford = IBM (hardware-wise, at least)
Dodge = HP
Hyundai/Suzuki/Isuzu = eMachines
BMW = Apple
Okay, so those aren’t so good.. I’m going to stop making analogies now.
And Macs don’t ‘run on differen fuel’ than other computers, do they? Electricity, processors, RAM, CD-ROMS, DVD, CD-R… Keyboard, mouse… It’s like Toyota developing the anti-lock brakes (they didn’t, but) and then every other car manufacturer pickup them up, like FireWire or a friendly UI.
Now our Anologies of an anology are getting bad… we all should just shut up.
