I'd better be careful, they might sue me next
from Salon:
The families of several victims in the Columbine massacre have filed a lawsuit against companies that create violent video games and sex-oriented Web sites, claiming their products influenced the gunmen.
“Absent the combination of extremely violent video games and these boys’ incredibly deep involvement, use of and addiction to these games and the boys’ basic personalities, these murders and this massacre would not have occurred,” said the lawsuit filed Thursday, a day before the two-year anniversary of the shootings.
Fucking bullshit. Mother-fucking ass-fucking holes. Jesus God-damned Christ in a fucking handbag. GAH.
The entertainment industry is NOT to fucking blame for something like this… especially for something that happened over 2 years ago… and the game they’re blaming (Doom) was created 6 years before THAT. This is a prime example of stupid people looking for someone to sue. It’s not about the victims anymore, it’s about the need to bleed the system dry, and get as many pennies as you fucking can. This is utter, complete bullshit. The only people to blame are the fucking victims themselves. If they left enough alone, those 2 kids would have had no reason to fucking shoot up the damn place. Do you honestly think that playing Doom or Quake and going to ‘sex-related’ websites had ANYTHING to do with the fact that these kids were verbally tortured day-in and day-out for nothing other than they didn’t play sports or look like the rest of the fucking kids in that school? I’m not defending the gunmen in the least, it was a despicable and ugly, horrible thing to do, but let’s face the facts here, they didn’t do it ’cause Sarge told ’em to.
Now, I’m jumping out on a limb here, but I’ve lived in Littleton, and I know what those people are like. These parents I can almost guarantee are suburban Republicans with giant houses and gas-guzzling Expeditions. They LOVE their capitalist way of life that affords them these great items. This ‘free market’ of ours has done wonders for their bank accounts and stock portfolios. But when the video game market determines that violent video games are what sells, they freak out because, well, violent video games are the reason why their kids are dead or injured. Why can’t these people see the way the world fucking works? Why can’t they wake up from their suburban sub-reality and see that they’re simply WRONG? It’s okay they’re pissed, but why can’t they truly search inside themselves for what THEY might have done wrong? When money, complacency and lack of compassion take the place of love in your hearts, peope die. Rage Against the Machine said it best..”Cellular phones, sounding a death toll.”

I almost completely agree. The individual is becoming the most oppressed minority in today’s bitter society. Last year, in the heat of “Zero Tolerance,” I was suspended for 2 weeks for wearing my KMFDM “Godlike” T-Shirt. Even worse, I listen to not only KMFDM, but Ramms+ein as well. God forbid. Despite the fact that I am a straight-A student, I was almost forced to attend school in the next state (Texas…yeah…I live in Louisiana…laugh it up…). I believe that the torture Eric and Dylan endured was the major catalyst leading up to the inevitable. I’m a 16-year old Macintosh geek, I know the feeling (especially living in my state). However, it was ultimately the fault of the parents and the authorities for the failure to note the many warnings. Not DooM. Not Ramms+ein. Not KMFDM. And where the fuck did the sex-oriented web site influence come into play?! This is entirely too irritating.
If you can’t have your son/daughter back, why not a few million bucks? So, so sad.
These parents are looking for a way out. They want someone/something to blame for their child’s death and they can’t fess up to the fact that maybe they are part of the problem. Capitalism, making money, spoiling their kids, telling their kids that they are better than other people. They raise their kids to frown at difference. Homogeny is what they want. They instill it in their kids and those kids go and torment people that are different. It’s part of a larger cultural idea that being different is a bad thing. Even after their children’s death, the only thing they can think of is money. Fuckin’ sick. I wish I could tell it to their faces.

I like what you have to say about it.. Its such a large failure. Government is supposed to protect people… Schools as a part of the government pledge to provide a safe haven for learning. But instead they spend all their resources protecting the interests of big companies. So when the government fails to provide its promised protections, we hate them too… Bad governmnet for allowing litigationism… bad for creating capatalist money exchange systems. Its like a rougue C++ program with memory leaks all over… Decentralized economies bring communities to their feet, forcing them to give up their inborn sense of community for mere economic survival. All idealism is lost when they spend lives in sick buildings with cog-like jobs, and the kids get left out in the cold… The sad thing is, marginalized children are so in touch with their artistic, tribal and intellectual powers… I don’t support alternativness just for the sake of alternativness, but I see society constantly conforming to the lowest common denominator without fail. The aquarian age has brought the fall of the dot-coms… Perhaps rightfully so… poor businessmen… 25 year old CEO’s.. ahem… but it hasn’t brought us any understanding of anything…. Maybe if the “millenium bug” (ah, those were the days) had actually dropped society to its knees, we would have had to deal with our criminals, our sick, elderly, etc instead of paying people to do so for us, and maybe we would have gained some insight into tthe human experience… but once again, technology saves us from ourselves… our own true natures being evoluted out of us like lab rats being progressively whitened… Not to even touch upon Gentrification… the saddest thing my generation will always witness…. But, as for video games, I guess: If comfort is in question, censorship is the answer. Thats a satisfactory answer for most people.
