Reaping the seeds we sow?

“The Taliban may suddenly be the dream regime of our own war drug war zealots, but in the end this alliance will prove a costly failure. Our long sad history of signing up dictators in the war on drugs demonstrates the futility of building a foreign policy on a domestic obsession.”

This article was written in May but seems very appropriate now. We have sent money and support to nations that have turned around and bit us in the ass in the past and then in retrospect realized what a mistake it was. Afghanistan treats human rights like mere suggestions, they harbor bin Laden and yet we send them $43 million because they outlawed growing Opium. There is so little logic in that.

Catastrophe

So something happened. Disgusting. And the first/natural response is to hunt down and fucking obliterate whoever is responsible. Let’s hope Bush Jr isn’t as much of a pussy as his dad was. The worst mental picture I’ve received was when someone said ‘I saw people jumping out of the building..’ That makes me shudder.

Rollin'

So in 6 hours, I will be on the open road to sunny San Diego, meaning Alternate will most probably go on some sort of temporary hiatus. Not like it’s been great anyway. I think everyone’s waiting for something big to happen. Kind of a sense of something’s coming.

Without the drivers, huh…

And, if you’re frequently adding new peripherals to your system, you should be pleasantly surprised at how simple Windows XP makes it. In fact, a couple of weeks ago we popped in a wireless LAN card without the drivers. Within 60 seconds, we accessed a wireless LAN that our systems had never seen before. Very impressive.

Or you could use a system that doesn’t involve drivers and has wireless LAN support built into the system because the people who made the system also made the LAN card. Yawn. I’m not even linking to the article, because that’s about all the substance it has to it. Very terrible for ZDNet just to say ‘Buy XP because we say so. We’re not giving you any real reasons other than that.’
