Listen to the Lies

This should be fun…Get your ears ready for some burning sensations.

The upcoming appeal arguments between the federal government and Microsoft Corp. will be a broadcast first, as audio of the hearings will be streamed live on the Internet.

Tune in Feburary 26 and February 27. The arguments will be available on the Web at ABC and C-SPAN Online.

Not without Quartz, it ain't

*Yawn*:

Enderle compares the Windows XP user interface to the Aqua interface in Apple Computer Inc.’s Mac OS X, which is due in March. Aqua has large rounded icons, myriad menu options, fluid application control and a turquoise color scheme. Windows XP should also be more user-friendly, modern-looking and showy than its predecessor.

“The capability is there to make it look like an Aqua clone,” Enderle said. “This is going to be a very Apple-like launch.”

Microsoft is getting nowhere near X unless they can develop something like Quartz.

Clever

The more I hear, the more I wish I was in ownership of a Mac. Microsoft is adding some fun new features to Windows XP. I can hardly wait.

“When you purchase Windows XP you will buy it at a low (cost) but will have to agree to pay each year,” he said.

How low is low?

Their next idea: Microsoft Windows XPNT2000:PC Second Edition Service Pack X

You know what? I’ve started to get sick of commenting on Microsoft’s lack of innovation. I really have. Most Mac people totally get off every time MS announces something ‘groundbreaking’ that Apple has been doing for years. And I used to be that way, as well. But I’m honestly just getting pretty bored of it. I don’t know how anyone working over there in Redmond could possibly feel actual pride in the work they do. The :Mac people in the valley do a pretty good job of developing decent software for the Mac, but come on. It’s getting so that I don’t even want to talk about it, but here it is anyway: Microsoft’s new products are allegedly going to be named: Windows XP, Office XP, etc. instead of using the numeral 10. Who knows what it stands for, and who cares.

“Maybe they should just name it Windows WTF or Office WTF.”

Now THAT’S an idea I like.

Re: Sucking Monkey Balls

I can’t believe I haven’t posted about this before… I’ve had SO many problems with that SprintPCS site, it almost made me want to cancel my service… but I just love my TouchPoint 1100 too much. I’ve actually sent emails to them regarding the horrible performance of their site, and they just told me that ‘any site’ will experience problems from time to time. They didn’t respond to my suggestion of looking at alternatives to Microsoft when developing the next version.

…And Why is Gates So Rich?

From MSNBC (am I actually referencing that POS? I guess so…):

Says Gates of Microsoft’s eventual UI path: “We want users to be able to run applications without even knowing it,”

Right. Because I love NOT BEING ABLE TO KNOW what my computer or OS is doing, especially when it’s doing things I DIDN’T TELL IT TO. Jesus.

And how would they go about doing that? Microsoft thinks that the answer might lie in a “universal type-in line,” an always-active blank space that intelligently processes what the user wants to do at a given moment—whether its a recalculation command, a URL address, a search query or the beginning of an e-mail composition. (Gates is well aware of the irony—the old command line, left for dead, is back!)

Right again, Mr. Gates. If it works for AOL users (it doesn’t) then it works for the world, I guess (it won’t). All of a sudden I don’t see Microsoft making out of this .NET monsrosity alive.

(Simplicity) helps keep the MSN screen coherent in the midst of a surprising amount of activity. Uh-huh. Did that screenshot look coherent to you?

Another Q&A

If you read the story below first this will make more sense. I was *almost* hired at the same Denver New Media shop as Kevin… Problem was I knew Design, HTML, and Network Administration and wanted to be paid like someone who knows and will use all those abilities. So, was I right in requesting more money than say a “low-end” designer would make? I think so, BUT they don’t. Funny thing is, I know Macintosh like the back of my hand as well as Windows and several flavors of UNIX. In fact, I can think of at least 3 or 4 ways to get that piece of shit Dave off the godamn desktop whether they are using NT or Solaris. Damn. Fuck. I hate people in high places in the tech industry, they seem to know nothing except that they *should* use Microsoft products. What a crock of shit that is. Think different and think for yourself.
