Mac for the masses

Really great infographic, designed to show the “tipping point” where PC users finally flock to the Mac en masse. I like his idea that this is a long-term Apple marketing strategy finally come to fruition. I’ve been thinking along these lines for years, but he’s got a better way of saying it than I did. Very nice.

Thanks, Macromedia!

I’d just like to go ahead and extend a few thank-yous to Macromedia right about now:

1. Thanks for making me delete the cached ActionScript 2 classes directory every time I export a SWF using AS2! I think it’s really cool that you won’t let me set a preference to automatically use the newest version of a class if the FLA resides on a server! Deleting that directory every time I export is a treat!

2. Oh, and your bug-checking tools can’t be beat! I mean, not telling me a MovieClip doesn’t exist when I try to use it in ActionScript but instead just doing nothing at all is tops! I mean, what MORON would type “UIScrollBar” instead of “UIScrollbar?”

3. Also, the fact that the Flex server is $12,000.00 and that FlexBuilder doesn’t work on Macintosh, I mean, this stuff is really ground-breaking. Let alone the fact that you can’t download developer versions of this stuff. I didn’t need that $8.99 and those 3 days in order to get a CD from you, anyway.

Hats off to Macromedia for being another awesome closed-source developer of software development tools!

What is old is new again.

I actually used the title of this post twice today, once on a car forum regarding a design change (back to an old look) and now for this useless little tidbit.

So whats the tidbit … well, you’ll have to remember back to the Syquest and Bernoulli days to appreciate my rant… Anyway, Iomega has recently released what is basically a Syquest.

Iomega Rev Drive

Historical Removable Media Lesson:
The Syquest 88 was crushed by the Zip 100, the Zips by the Jaz (Iomegas first Syquest rip off), the Jaz by CDRs, CDRs by firewire drives, and now they think they can pull their slowly dying company out of the ashes and to the forefront of removable media with yet another re-branded fucking syquest. Once again, damn tards.

Some interesting things:

This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about, and I can’t wait until John Gruber responds, although it’s so cliché that he probably won’t.

Preview of the new mature-style Zelda game due out next year.

Totally boss Gran Turismo 4 video

Not related to cool video or Macs: 5 of the 6 latest comp presentations here at Spiremedia have resulted in the client picking my design, including local furniture store The Furniture Room (which is cooler than it sounds, and that links to the current site, which obviously, is not my design). So yay for me.

Designs on the White House

This sounds like it’s right up my alley.

Designs On The White House is a grassroots fund-raising organization in support of the John Kerry 2004 Presidential campaign. We aim to mobilize the creative community through an online design contest, judged by designers, celebrities, and activists. Winning designs will be available for resale on T-shirts and other products, and all proceeds after expenses will benefit the John Kerry Presidential campaign.

Design categories are:

  • Best Pro-Kerry Shirt (positive spin, no mention of Bush)
  • Best Anti-Bush Shirt (negative spin, must mention Bush)
  • Best Issue Shirt – Domestic
  • Best Issue Shirt – Foreign
  • Funniest Shirt
  • Best Retro Shirt
  • Best Get Out The Vote Shirt
  • Most stylish / Most likely to be featured on Queer Eye

Sounds fun. Which category should I enter?
