Can you tell I am irritated with the US?

Another post about post-9-11. I bought these trading cards a couple days ago called “Enduring Freedom” only because I was wondering what would be on them. It turns out that enduring freedom means war. If you look at the list of cards, over half of them are military things. It is obvious to me now that some of us think freedom is synomous with killing. Sadly, Americans are the most happily brainwashed people in the world.

  1. As sad as it is to say, at times the only way to have freedom and peace, is to fight for it. For example the Revolutionary war, or how about WW2.

  2. Irritated? Give me a break…

“Enduring Freedom” was the name given to the military operation, which is probably why the cards were named that – and why the subject matter was primarily military-related.

“Operation Payback Is A Bitch” or “Operation Extermination” probably might not win over as much of the support of the American public (or maybe they would…)

Personally, I think the “brainwashed” people are the ones that think they are entitled to the rights and freedoms this country offers, unconditionally. Love it or leave it – no one is forcing you to stay here.

  3. So by using the freedom of expression I may no longer be entitled to the freedoms that this nation offers? Questioning the actions of MY nation isn’t an option. I have to just accept it or leave it. How come I can’t voice my frustration (irritation), even Inarticulately, without getting an ultimatum?

  4. (just to add fuel to the fire) the revolutionary war happened because the founding fathers didn’t want to share the colonial wealth with england. they realized that they were missing out on quite a load of cash. and ww2? pearl harbor was unforgivable, until we redefined unforgivable by dropping the bomb on a country that was about to surrender to us anyway.

i see Bob’s argument quite a lot these days. it really is difficult to question any American thought right now. i applaud ddmmyy for having the cajones to do such a thing. if he really hated the place, he would move. the only thing we’ve got on canada is the weather. i don’t have blanket patriotism, i dont think anyone should. now is the time we should be the *most* scrutinizing of our government. it amazes me when people seem uncomfortable with that. i mean isn’t that part of the american ideal? oh well.

  5. I think all of our readers should pick up the latest Adbusters. Seriously.

  6. Minor point: is it already so long ago that people forget “Operation Enduring Freedom” was initially called “Operation Infinite Justice”?
