C'mon, guys.. We didn't mean it…
Microsoft is appealing to the Supreme Court to have the decision overturned. Cross your fingers that they uphold the ruling and we can finally find out what the fuck is going to happen.

While researching a new name for an investment company, I came across this interesting tidbit at Dictionary.com:
4: printers once kept type for capitals and small letters in separate cases; capitals were kept in the upper half of the type case, small letters in the lower half.
Whaddayaknow.
So I saw the Vagrant Tour last night, featuring such bands as Hey Mercedes, Hotrod Circuit, Dashboard Confessional and Saves The Day. All of which are on the Vagrant Records label. I must say, even if you’ve never heard these bands, go see this show. Dashboard Confessional, an acoustic act, I had never heard before but totally blew me away. Hotrod Circuit I only heard a few minutes of but didn’t hate. Hey Mercedes I missed entirely, so I have no idea, but Saves The Day just rocked the fucking house. Props out to Liberation Media for getting me on the list. I would serously check Pollstar for information about whether the tour is coming to your town (don’t try the Vagrant site, it’s down for ‘legal reasons,’ I’m told). I think the tour is pretty much on the west coast now, so if you’re out there, check it out.
Miramax is rereleasing Apocalypse Now with the added title “Redux.” Watch the trailer and tell me if you don’t see Harrison Ford in it. He wasn’t in the original, so he must have been in some of the scenes that were edited out. Although I like this movie, I’m getting somewhat tired of repackaging. Filmmakers are going to start intentionally leaving out certain scenes for resale later.
Of course Apple is in on this with Quicktime. Notice no one is putting these trailers out in Windows Media format.
“They are out of money,” said a source who requested anonymity.
Is that what happens when you file for bankruptcy?
Curiosity got the best of me. I installed Windows XP on an extra computer at work today. I really don’t want to go into it because I know that Kev is tired of hearing about Microsoft. Plus everyone is to busy snickering and giggling to try anything serious out. Let’s just say that the GUI is pretty insulting but the install went smoothly.
As the U.S. economy continues to stagnate and layoffs proliferate, workplace experts say, it is becoming more important than ever for employers to be vigilant against retaliation by the people they are letting go.
Or maybe employers can start treating their laid-off employees with some dignity and compassion. IHT article, via the Bitchlog.
This “Code Red” worm thing is so out of hand. So many resources are being spent (including our taxpayer dollars) to deal with the crap that Microsoft puts out.
I say we hold Microsoft accountable and charge them with negligence and hand them the bill….if only that was a real possibility.
Here is an interesting article on HyperTransport.
Looks like it’s shaping up to be a face-off between Intel and its lapdogs (direct quote from the article, not mine) and the rest of the computer industry (which includes nVidia, Cisco and Sun). Interestingly, Apple is the only PC manufacturer on the HyperTransport consortium, with the rest of the PC industry squarely in the aforementioned lapdog category. Not that they’d have a choice anyway – they are little more than package and distribution channels for Intel and Microsoft these days.
Strangely enough, the article doesn’t mention the big fence-sitter – IBM, whose membership could decide the winner.
Macintosh and XBox sharing the same system architecture – imagine that!
This apparent interference came in the form of Microsoft’s announcement Monday that computer manufacturers who put any icons on the desktop of Windows XP — the new version of its operating system — must also include an icon for MSN, Microsoft’s ISP.
Wha-? Who-the-? How-the-? It’s entirely too frustrating that they keep doing this, and I’m seriously getting sick of hearing about it, writing about it, thinking about it. And it’s an OS I don’t even fucking use! I haven’t seen a Windows desktop or Windows IE explorer window in action since last January, and still it upsets me that they try to do this shit. I don’t know how many times I’ve vowed ‘never to report on MS doing something stupid again.’ And yet I keep doing it, over and over and over. Because they keep finding new ways to stick their head in the sand. I have no doubt that there are smart people at Microsoft, but whoever the hell makes and approves these kinds of decisions should be fucking fired. Wait. I don’t mean fired, I mean fired AT. With a shotgun.
