AOL is so big now that today someone who works there (only because AOL bought Nullsoft [the makers of winamp]) got “caught” working on his “unauthorized” side project at work and AOL had to pull the file and make the apologetic press releases… LAF.
Take a look:
“The Gnutella software was an unauthorized freelance project and the Web site that allowed access to the software has been taken down,” said Josh Felser, general manager for AOL’s Spinner and Winamp projects.
The Gnutella authors said they could not comment further.
Anyone interested in the incredible software they managed to hack out can find out more right here.

Bush Meets with Gay Republicans
I wonder if the Gay Republicans enjoyed it…
Aparently the crack programming staff at Microsoft embedded some “renegade” code into an unnamed 3-year-old server software that allows you access to the admin stuff on the server. Their “we didn’t do it on purpose” defense went out the window when a comment was found in the midst of the rebel code that reads, “Netscape engineers are weenies!”
No, I’m not making this up.

… in some software [the passphrase] could be used to
gain illicit access to hundreds of thousands of Internet sites worldwide,
according to reports.
It goes on to say that it works through FrontPage Extensions!
YeeeHaw… what a bunch of name calling children.
You may have noticed our site was down for about a week… This down time has been due to a hacker trying to use our server as his own private home. After ehancing our unix security skills and procedures in a couple days we slowly managed to lock this individual out. At least we thought we did… This goes as a warning to anyone with stuff on a server… BE CAREFULL AND BACK UP YOUR DATA ALL THE TIME!!!!
Do you mean to tell me that Microsoft DOESN’T adhere to STANDARDS put together by someone else? Wow.
This press release by The Web Standards Project states that MS is a bad, bad boy. Whaddayaknow.
Apparently, IE5.5 for Winblows is simply ignoring W3C standards and adhering to its own set of “innovated” technologies.
But Bill Gates told me just yesterday on the telly that the best is yet to come! These W3C people must not know what they’re talking about.
Today Netscape released a preview of the new version 6 browser. You can pick it up here and see how you like it.
So far, I hate it… It has crashed twice in two minutes. Yuck!!!!

Yea, MS slaughtered in the last week, along with all my favorate stocks, by way more than 15%, but this was an interesting blurb regarding Apple, especially when I bought a PPC 8500, and apple stock was around $13.00 a share. I should have bought stock instead of the computer. In any case Apple’s 2-year run from the mid-teens to nearly 130 where it stands today was not easy to forecast by many who had given up on this innovative computer maker in the mid 1990s. Although it is unlikely that Apple’s stock will again be a ten-bagger, there are many signs pointing to this very positive run continuing for the forseeable future. DLJ announced last week that Apple’s newest products, including an upgraded PowerBook, iBook and Power Mac G4, were “flying off the shelves”, leading to greater than anticipated sales and margins, at a time when many PC manufacturers are seeing sales struggle. In addition, Apple’s board of directors is looking to allocate an additional 600 million shares this next April, in what many see as an anticipated 2-1 or ever 3-1 stock split, the first for the company in quite some time. At a time where many PC makers are lowering margins and fighting a race to the bottom in price and features, Apple is leading the way with innovative designs, software and access to the Internet without sacrificing price margins or quality. Even if you are not familiar with Apple’s products, you should soon find yourself familiar with Apple’s stock.
So if anyone was totally asleep at the wheel yesterday, Microsoft was found guilty of everything we know they already do. Now they will be streching out this verdict over the next few years through appeals. Anyone else bummed about how long this is taking besides me??
Oh yeah… thanks to the stock market, the companies overall value droped 15% last night. I think it’s wonderful Apple is kicking the shit out of everthing on the stock markets.
Today Microsoft failed to come up with an acceptable settlement in its landmark case against the DOJ and because of that the judge is going to be offering up his own verdict by 5PM (EST) today… I personally think he is going to lay down the law and slap MS with some hefty shit… which will probably only help to encourage Microsofts appeals.
