PS2 Ships Late

‘Sony Computer Entertainment America, the company’s U.S. unit, said late Wednesday that it would only be able to dole out 500,000 PS2 video game units on its Oct. 26 North American launch date, half of what the firm had expected to ship.'(read the whole article here)

Damn. I was so hoping that my plan to wait and buy a PS2 for both Playstation games and DVD playing was going to happen sooner than later. Oh well. I’m still going to wait for it…. Maybe I should just wait for the Nintento cube thing… After all, I like Zelda more than GranTurismo…

'What Would Jakob Do?' How About This…

Do you want a Jakob Nielson mousepad? (see image below:)

Can mine say ‘Jakob Nielson Is A Cocksucking Whore?’

This part’s even better: ‘ Suffering doubt when designing for the Web? Never fear! This mousepad provides you all the inspiration necessary for ensuring you design correctly.’

Kiss my fucking ass. ‘Design Correctly?’ Fuck you.

Graphic Designer's Aesthetic Judgment Clouded By Desire To Use New Photoshop Plug-In

The Onion is the best newspaper ever:

‘The aesthetic judgment of Paul Gaskill, a graphic designer working on a brochure for Valley View Apartments, was “severely clouded” by a desire to use a new Adobe Photoshop plug-in, coworkers at Blue Moon Design said Monday.’

“It happens more than you’d think around here,” Mahaffey said. “With Marty [Boyd], it was the blur features. ‘Motion blur,’ ‘gaussian blur,’ ‘radial blur’–you name it, he’d blur it. With Rebecca [Almeida], it was the Alien Skin Eye Candy effects. The temptation is always going to be there.”

‘Alarmingly, Gaskill’s journey of graphic-effects discovery may only be beginning. The wave effect, Mahaffey said, is just one of hundreds of PhotoFrame 2.0 options. With the plug-in, users can easily make an image glow, cast a shadow, and create charcoal outlines. Mahaffey said he expects to see many of these effects surface in Gaskill’s work in the near future.’

You Have a Fast Computer. Now You're Fucked.

According to this article, if you have a fast computer (ie, 933 Mhz or above), and you run Windows ME or maybe 98, you might experience data loss when shutting down. Apparently, the OS doesn’t have time to save the contents of the cache on the ATA100 large capacity drive before the system shuts off. I wonder if this has something to do with MSWME being the shittiest OS ever made. I dunno, though. What’s worse is that the vendor of the offending machines ‘asks not to be named.’ Great. There’s a company that cares about its customers. And Microsoft insists that it’s a hardware problem, not an OS problem. It seems like no one can take responsibility for their crappy products nowadays:

‘… not specific to any operating system but has to do with larger hard drive caches in combination with fast processors,” says Greg Sullivan, lead product manager of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.

Microsoft on Thursday sent patches for both Windows 98 SE and Windows Me to vendors with systems at 933 MHz and higher.

While insisting the problem was not related to any specific OS, Microsoft acknowledges systems running Windows 2000 are not affected because that OS has a different shutdown architecture.’

So.. it’s not an OS problem, but you’re fixing it with an OS patch. Riiiight. If Apple pulled this kind of stunt, they’d be burned at the stake. Microsoft does shit every fucking day.

Supreme Court Disses The DOJ

Today, the Supreme Court granted an MS request to have the DOJ vs MS case hit a federal appeals court before appearing in front of the Supreme Court, if at all. What does this mean? You get to deal with Microsoft in its current state for even longer. Yipty-fuckin-do.

But That's Not Technology….

On a non-technical internet related note: my wife and I are going to have another baby. :> We’re pretty stoked, and I’m sure you are too. Don’t worry. This isn’t turning into some sort of online journal or anything. I just thought I’d share.

Also, the rest of the site is up and running. There will probably be some minor tweaks here and there, so bear with us. The admin tool also has been tweaked, but you don’t get to see that.

Stop Looking Over My Shoulder.

The next time someone has me go to my desk and make design changes to a LOGO during a MEETING with David Siegel on speakerphone telling me what to do.. -breath- I’m going to fucking kill someone. Probably David Siegel. I swear this.

I even missed lunch. Motherfucker. The CEO or president or whatever can’t even remember my name. I’ve only been in meeting after meeting with her.

Is This Even The Same Site…?

Okay, so I’m sure you’ve realized there’s something going on here. I’ve got a clue for you: we’ve redesigned the site. I got a little bored this Sunday while my son was taking a nap, so voila. New Alternate. Let us know what you think.

The links at the top won’t work, because well, I wasn’t THAT motivated. Give us a little time, and you’ll have full-on rockin’ site back together in no time (let’s be honest: you really didn’t use those sections, anyway, did you? I didn’t think so).

Smack Bell

Ok, get this. I move from Colorado to Silicon Valley. I expect DSL to be like water out here (everywhere). I ordered DSL on August 10th and I still have not even heard back from either the local ISP or the major bell (PacBell). So, I decide lets call and see whats taking them. PacBell informs me that “most people wait 3-7 months for service, so you are doing quite well sir.” — uh, what the fuck is that supposed to mean? My answer to the operator was this “Are you especially proud of that? Is there a reason you’re telling me this?”

Damn, Fuck the phone companies.

HipZip

Iomega introduced an mp3 player called the HipZip yesterday, and it’s not as cool as it could be. Basically, it acts as a drive on your machine, and when you unplug it, it can play the mp3s. The disks can hold up to 40MB, and can actually be used to store anything at all. My question is this: Why didn’t they just make it read the Zip 250 disks? You’d then have 250MB of space, more than just about any mp3 player on the market, it would boost sales of the struggling Zip 250 drives and disks… I would actually buy it. But they just make you buy all new technology, and it probably won’t last too long.
