Can I super-size this?

The officials in Venlo say they want to make it easier on Germans who flock to the southern Dutch border town for drugs by opening two coffee shops with drive-thrus selling drugs such as marijuana and hashish.

Thats really nice of them. I wish they would do that here.

Anyone looking for designers?

I hate to utilize a forum like this for my own ends, but here goes. I am finding myself in need of a design position. If you need me or know someone that does, please contact me. Being laid off with a wife, a three-year old and another on the way in less than 4 weeks is not the best feeling in the world, let me tell you.

SwingLog

So I made my first attempt at using GrayMatter to set up a weblog the other week, and I must say it’s a pretty rad peice of software. Totally easy to set up and configure. The hardest part is editing re-flowed HTML inside a little textarea. Can’t win ’em all. Check out the fruits of my labor, the 23skidooland SwingLog.

New Shiznit…

So Apple today announced a sweet new iBook and posted an update via the Software Update control panel for both iTunes and Mac OS X that supports CD burning. 🙂

Command-Shift S = 'Save As…' in BBEdit 6.1

I just noticed that BBEdit 6.1 has a nifty little ‘Set Menu Keys…’ item in the ‘Edit’ menu. This allows you (among other things) to set ‘Command-Shift-S’ to the more oft-seen ‘Save as’ instead of ‘Save to FTP’ as is the application’s default for the key-command. I’m not sure if 6 or 5 has this option, I just noticed it with 6.1

From Erasing:

I’d gotten complacent in my post-graduation life and had been feeling entirely too fond of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia and had sort of glossed over the fact that I do live in The South and that the student body of my alma mater is very heavily populated with ignorant, bigoted, homophobic, slow-witted, upper-class, identically-dressed, thick-necked, barrel-chested, cleft-chinned, ruddy-faced, party-hearty pack-hunting preppie redneck alpha-male Aryan fratboy assholes who were born with not just silver spoons but entire dinette sets in their collective sagging mouths, whose political affiliations lie somewhere to the right of Attila The Hun except when it comes to laws regarding weed and rohypnol, and whose chest-thumping machismo and obnoxiousness and bigotry and homophobia and misogyny will be rewarded in what passes for their adulthood with high-paying jobs and trophy wives and lives of privilege and pleasure and a lifelong freedom from ever having to comprehend the concepts of not being able to afford something or of not getting their way.

Hrm…. Sounds a lot like Littleton to me. Note: Absolutely ZERO relation to Columbine High School in Littleton, CO was made. I’m speaking more directly of Arapahoe High School and its surrounding neighborhoods.

Did you know that the pieces fit?

For those that don’t know yet: “Schism” from the new Tool album (Lateralus) has hit the web. It’s all over Napster, but of course there are quite a few imposter songs out there. In fact, the first version I stumbled upon was bass only. The song length is about 6:45, if that helps.

Of course, it’s amazing. Completely prog rock in the way that only Tool can pull off. Hell, King Crimson is opening for them at some shows. And since you asked, I just love hearing new stuff from good bands, because it always casts their older work in a completely different light. For instance, Kid A is such a warm, comforting album in light of the dryer, more desolate Amnesiac (not dissing on Amnesiac though). To me, Aenema already feels a little different. Anyways, find “Schism” and see what you think.
