A rare Tuesday of great releases

Tonight at midnight signals the official store release of Radiohead’s Amnesiac. I’m excited, I’m a sucker. I like to buy the legal copies of CDs and vinyl. It’s having something tangible, something to look at and hold as well as listen to. Also, the new Hot Water Music comes out tonight.

  1. cool! another hot water music fan. don’t forget the new kool keith record and crouching tiger on dvd. im actually gonna grab crouching tiger and requiem for a dream (since it’s so, you know, uplifting) and that’ll probably be my happy tuesday.

  2. I dunno.. i tend to find jennifer connelly uplifting.

  3. I second the Jennifer Connelly comment. BTW, the Requiem DVD is pretty badass — the transfer is good and it’s packed with extra features.

  4. How’s Amnesiac?

  5. I’ve only listened to it once. More textured and more guitar work. Basically it’s better than Kid A but not as good as OK Computer. Great packaging on the limited edition copies.

  6. see, i dig Kid A far more than Amnesiac, only because Amnesiac is a very dry, desolate record. ‘life in a glass house’ is such a great song because its that bit of water than one was wanting on the record. i dunno. this past year i’ve gotten into using non-musical feelings and observations to describe the music i like. amnesiac is a desert record. kid a is winter. both kick ass and work together wonderfully. i may see tortoise this weekend. jennifer connelly is wonderful, but after requiem, i don’t think i can watch labrynth for a while. she was a pop star in 80s japan. my posts are getting longer.

  7. Amnesiac is somewhat Kid A-like in its use of twisted Thom Yorke vocalizations on certain tracks (regurgitated by a computer) and dreamy rhythms. Not sure I prefer it to Kid A, but it’s a nice companion piece. On some songs, it’s like The Bends met Kid A and had a lovechild. But that’s just me.

  8. It was recorded at the same time (as Kid A) and mastered/mixed at a later date hence the resemblance.
