I guess YOU should be head of product development, then?

I love it when know-nothing people decide that they know far better what Apple should do than Apple itself. Regarding the iPod:

1. Put a 40-GB hard drive in it so it would have been head and shoulders above its numerous competitors.

2. Added AirPort wireless connectivity to it.

3. Included digital video features.

4. Made it PC-compatible.

5. Sold it for at least half the price.

Right. And they didn’t do this out-of-this-world stuff because it absolutely isn’t possible to do all this for half the price AND keep it about the size of a deck of fucking cards. Jesus. They could have done this, sure. But you would have had to wait like 5 or 6 years for it all and by then who knows where things will be and the iPod would be regarded as behind still.

  1. I think what “Know-nothing people” were trying to say is expand your market lower your mark-up. If it was PC-compatible and $100 cheaper I would have bought it! Think of the other 75%+ of the market that are saying the same thing. Just like my hours you buy 1 hour it cost you $X you buy 100 hours you just got 10% off X.

  2. The article, more than anything, is trying to incite mac vs. PC politics…wow. Who cares. Why the hell is Wired news printing this as news?

  3. Well Bob, I wouldn’t say its purpose was to incite Mac vs. PC politics. I would say more then anything it just was a shot at Apples concept. But Kev is right when he says who the fuck has stepped up. It would be cool if the Lamborghini Diablo had wings and fly but it just doesn’t.

  4. Also, I think, Apples point is to make the other 75% of the people want the iPod and possibly some will switch to the mac in order to get it.

  5. let’s remember, however, that it’s not the other 75%. it’s the other 97.5%
