Wow. A Mac Virus.

A Mac-based Outlook virus has sprung up. So it’s still Microsoft-reliant, but instead of VBScript, it’s written in AppleScript. So don’t run crazy AppleScripts you get in an email. Or use Eudora or MailSmith. I’m pretty sure the Mac versions won’t open files automatically, so just don’t open a file if you get it in some email about The Simpsons. The ‘virus’ will attack both Outlook Express and Entourage, and no word yet if it works in the beta releases of Outlook:mac 2001. My guess is ‘yes.’

  1. This is just the beginning, Mac fans… Wait until OSX is more widespread — “The virus susceptibility of UNIX, the simplicity of the Macintosh.” In the meantime, I guess we should be happy someone considers the MacOS a big enough target to write a virus for it 😉

  2. I dunno, name a UNIX “virus” — or, actually an email worm… I sure cant?? Linux worms *ARE NOT* email based… I use Mail.app on OSX and I have no issues with that “virus”, in fact I can run it and it wouldnt do shit, its *STILL* based on MS BS.

Or Emailer… it still rocks. Even under 9.1
